Russel has over 25 years experience in the food industry, building his industry network at the CEO and Managing Director level, which has culminated in a thorough understanding of commercial business strategies and drivers. He has an inherent ability to connect companies, research organisations and Government and understands how to manage the innovation process and the commercialisation of research.
Prior to starting Food Innovation Partners Pty Ltd, Russel was General Manager – Innovation for the National Food Industry Strategy, and led the team that was responsible for the investment of $45 million with matching funds from food companies, to generate new investment in food R&D of $104 million across 80 projects. Companies involved in Food Innovation Grants have reported commercialisation benefits including:

Modernisation of manufacturing processes

He also had responsibility for developing the two industry led Centres of Excellence, one in Functional Foods and the other in Food Safety to ensure they are industry focused and self sustaining.
Russel also sits on the Queensland Government’s Food Industry Advisory Council with both Industry Leaders and State Government representatives. The Council’s role is to provide opportunities to have focused discussions on issues critical to the expansion of the food industry in Queensland.
